Lodgefield Park is surrounded by the glorious Staffordshire countryside and counts Shugborough Hall and Cannock Chase as its neighbours. Staffordshire is known for its diversity; from the world-famous potteries in Stoke-on-Trent and its inland waterways and stunning scenery to world-renowned attractions such as Alton Towers.
Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958, Cannock Chase is renowned for its landscape, wildlife and history. The Visitor Centre holds many events from ranger-led walks and cycle rides to archaeology days and wildlife talks.
Shugborough Hall is a working historic hall where the past is brought to life by costumed characters who take visitors on a journey into the running of a country estate. Why not spend a morning touring the splendid Mansion House, birthplace of Royal photographer Patrick Lichfield) and the afternoon wandering around the glorious gardens? The picturesque Peak District, from the Staffordshire Moorlands to the historic spa town of Buxton, is where you’ll find many pretty towns and villages to stroll; miles of walking and cycle trails are also within easy reach.
For those of you who crave a bit of retail therapy every now and then, Stafford is a thriving, bustling market town where you’ll find most of the major shops. There is also a cinema and theatre in the town, a municipal and a private fitness centre and a diverse range of bars, restaurants and coffee houses. You’ll also find three large supermarket chains (Marks and Spencer, Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys) in the town.
The towns of Lichfield and Burton-upon-Trent are also within easy reach. Why not visit the Bass Museum in Burton or the magnificent cathedral in Lichfield? Birthplace of Samuel Johnson and Erasmus Darwin, the city also has many interesting museums to explore.
If gardening is more your thing, the region has many horticultural delights: Bridgemere Garden World, Trentham Gardens and Biddulph Grange.
The heart of Staffordshire is, without doubt, The Potteries. Here, you'll find the world-famous ceramics companies such as Wedgwood, Spode and Royal Doulton. Many of the potteries have visitor centres where you can see just how your dining service is made.
For those seeking thrills and excitement, the theme parks of Alton Towers and Drayton Manor are not far away. Both nestle in glorious countryside and offer the whole family an enjoyable day out.
Good train links from Stafford will take you to Wolverhampton in about 15 minutes and to the centre of Birmingham and Manchester in about half an hour. There is also easy access to the M6, providing links to both Manchester and Birmingham in under an hour.
